Composite bonding is becoming a very popular treatment, allowing us to make cosmetic improvements to a smile quickly.
The treatment is quick and can be carried out in a single visit. It is one of the easiest ways to solve a selection of dental problems, including chipped or cracked teeth, decaying teeth, discoloured teeth, spaces between teeth, or restoring lost tooth structure.
Often this treatment is combined with teeth whitening as an ideal way to correct imperfections and to create your desired smile.
Firstly, one of our highly experienced dentists will select a shade to match the natural colour of your teeth. Your tooth will be prepped by slightly roughening the surface. It will then be coated with a liquid which helps the resin to adhere smoothly.
Then the resin will then be applied to the teeth and moulded into the required shape. A UV light is used to harden the resin, before it is shaped again and polished by your dentist. When finished it will match the rest of your teeth, ensuring that is it virtually undetectible.
Composite bonding is a pain-free experience that can normally be completed in a single visit.
Like any teeth, you should brush and floss daily. You should also have them professionally cleaned at the dentist twice a year. Bonded teeth can become stained due to tobacco, red wine and coffee. However, unlike regular teeth, bonded teeth can be lightened. If you are having a tooth whitening treatment, we recommend having this done before your composite bonding process.
Composite bonding effects can last up to an average of 10 years, if proper oral care and hygiene is maintained. That includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing regularly, and scheduling routine dental cleanings and checkups. This will improve the longevity of your tooth bonding. However, if you do not keep up with these oral hygiene habits, then the life of your tooth bonding can decrease.
